The first time I came across Minimalism as a concept was through one of Matt D’Avella’s videos 3 years ago: My minimalist apartment.

His videos are very inspiring and educational but as time went by, I started questioning if Matt is even a real minimalist. Don’t you agree with me? If not, just read my plea.

No full black outfit

Besides those single black jeans he owns — I’ll give him that — he has no more black pieces of clothing. He might dress the same thing every day, but it has colors!

Minimalists are known to show their boring personality through brandless black clothing they bought second-hand in a thrift store.

Doesn’t have a blog

Rule number #1 as a minimalist: you must have a blog.

Instead, he owns a very inspiring podcast where he interviews successful people from various types of industries.

And to top it all it isn’t just about Minimalism, as they usually address productivity, sustainability, mental health, finance, and business!

Too much camera gear

Oh look at me, I did two amazing Netflix documentaries!” Yeah, sure Matt, but do you actually need that much gear?

I know he didn’t upgrade to the newest iPhone, but I am pretty sure if he’d was a real minimalist he could shoot those documentaries, to the same success, with his phone.

Over 3 Million subscribers

How can a minimalist have over 3 million subscribers on any platform?

His content on Youtube is funny and educational, no way minimalists can accomplish that! Minimalists are condescending people and no one stands being next to them, much less consuming their interesting content.

He’s married

Minimalists don’t have partners. They are just boring snobs who only talk about how they are better than you because they are, well, minimalists.

Matt can crack a joke every now and then, hence he was able to find himself a caring funny partner.

A framed picture of The Rock

I mean, just more clutter. Sure Dwayne Johnson has an inspiring persona, but Matt could just have a wallpaper of him on his phone. That picture is just occupying precious space that could be used to place a cactus.

His biceps

Have you seen those biceps? Those things sure ain’t minimal!

Now you get it? Great. Then let us minimalists unite and expose this poser!

Inspired by a fellow creator, I decided to challenge myself to publish 100 short-form articles within January. This is article number 13.
